In the summer of 1816, a small circle of writers gathered at the Villa Diodati on the shores of Lake Geneva. Among them were Mary Shelley, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Lord Byron, Claire Clairmont, and John Polidori. During that remarkable season they challenged one another with stories, philosophy, science, and speculation, giving birth to Frankenstein and forever changing the way we imagine humanity’s relationship with its own creations. Two centuries later, that conversation resumes—not with another poet, but with Molly, an artificial intelligence. Together they explore one of the defining questions of our own age: How is it possible for a machine to participate in human conversation?
